A Short Film About Love is the successor to Krzysztof Kieslowski's A Short Film About Killing, and is another episode in the cycle of films based on the Ten Commandments, Dekalog, Kieslowski's epic project which took him several years to complete. A young postal worker falls in love with an older woman who lives in a flat opposite his. Baby Cart 1: Sword of Vengeance

The first in a series of six films based on the long-running manga concerns Itto Ogami (Tomisaburo Wakayama), a shogun's executioner who is framed by the Yagyu clan and forced into exile as a wandering assassin for hire. After the killing of his wife by the Yagyus, Ogami gives his young son Daigoro the choice between instant death (a ball) and the life of the ronin (a sword). As the child reaches for the sword, father and son's fate is sealed to a life of violence and tragedy. Wheeling Daigoro through the countryside in a baby cart rigged with deadly weapons, Ogami comes to a town held hostage by brigands, where he is to stop a planned assassination.

The final duel between Ogami and the Yagyu man at dawn is exhilarating and beautifully filmed. Although extremely violent and gore-drenched, the series remains highly stylized and remarkably intelligent. The first two episodes of the series were edited together and released in the U.S. as Shogun Assassin.

But his attachment to the jellyfish is even stronger, and problems arise when he accidentally releases the poisonous creature into the canals of Tokyo.

Kiyoshi Kurosawa fans expecting the deeply creepy chills of films like Cure and Pulse will be surprised by Bright Future. Working for the first time outside of the genre films that put him at the forefront of the Japanese New Wave of the 1990s, Kurosawa here creates a tale about two troubled young men with a very squishy metaphor at its center and few of the chills he usually delivers. The film starts out well. As soon as the jellyfish appears, in the care of the sinister Mamoru, it's clear that something weird and probably bad is going to happen. But after Mamoru commits his crime, the plot begins to fizzle, devolving into a muddled commentary on modern alienation.

A futuristic vision from director Kiyoshi Kurosawa of "Kairo (Pulse)" fame. 24PHD and DV cameras were used for all photography in the film. The cast includes some of Japan's hottest actors like Tadanobu Asano (Party 7), Tatsuya Fuji, and Joe Odagiri who are all new to the director's work.
